Kobal Roots Rožnato is a combination of perfectly ripe grapes, macerated for only 2 hours for Rose. The must or young Zweigelt juice was cared for according to various traditional-enological approaches, such as spontaneous fermentation with indigenous vineyard microflora and aging in 225l used oak barrels made of French wood. Malolactic fermentation also went threw spontaneously in barrels.

Bodega KOBAL
Haloze
Halozeis one of the oldest and most traditional wine regions in Slovenia and Europe. The culture of vinegrowing dates back 2000 years, to Roman times. In the period of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, it was one of most prestigious wine regions in the Empire; from here, the wines were sold not only to Vienna, but also worldwide. The town ofPtuj, which is the center of the region and the oldest Slovenian town, was basically built on wine trade.
This small wine region is about 20 km wide. All vineyards are on the southern exposure at a high incline so most of the vineyards are terraced. Soil composition is predominantly marl or clay over marl. The vineyards extend on top vinegrowing sites, on the hills surrounding the town of Ptuj.
The Kobal brand puts the wines from the selected vineyards of Slovenian Styria (Štajerska) on the world’s wine map. The majority of our wines come from the vineyards located on steep slopes of Haloze that consist predominantly of marl and from the vines that average more than 35 years in age. All of site’s complex influences result in unique traits of our wine, 24 hours long (or even longer) cold maceration accentuates their fruitiness; they exhibit freshness and reflect the fingerprint of nature – a distinctive Štajerska terroir.
Ptuj (roman Poetovio) is the oldest Slovenian city, first mentioned in the roman times by the Roman historian Tacitus in connection with war meeting in Poetoviani year 69, when the Pannonian Roman legions confirmed the election of the emperor Vespasian.
Enoteca Kobal is situated below the castle hill in oldest house of Ptuj, “casa romana” at Prešernova ulica 4.
In the near city of Maribor by the river bank of Drava grows THE OLD VINE, the oldest noble vine in the world still bearing grapes. “The old lady” is more than 400 years old, and each year wine is still produced from the grapes.
Haloze are a winegrowing region, where the vines were first planted by the Romans. Almost 2000 harvests later, Haloze are home to KOBAL WINERY. In the time of Austro-Hungarian empire and Habsburg Monarchy there were many winegrowing and winemaking estates here owned by known winemakers and wine merchants, who traded the wines also beyond the borders of our lands.
KOBAL WINE ESTATE stands on one of those old estates, once called Ulmovo of Counts of Ulm, wine makers and wine merchants.
